Since 2006, the Book family has been raising livestock at Crooked Gap Farm and direct-marketing through farmers markets and a CSA. Ethan is currently working to transition 60 newly acquired acres from row crop to permanent pasture, guided by a holistic view of sustainability that includes physical, emotional and financial considerations.
Come learn how Ethan is making the transition pencil out. You’ll also hear how he has made use of Natural Resources Conservation Service programs, cover crops and multi-species grazing. The field is in the first year of transition, so bring your questions – but also be ready to share your experiences! Ethan will also share how he uses marginal woodland for the health of both forest and pigs.
**This event will be presented in English with Spanish interpretation available.
