Brewer Family Farms: 2023-2024 Value-Added Grant Recipient

BREWER FAMILY FARMS
Dan & Linda Brewer, Joe & Brenda Brewer, Jeff & Emily Wynn

Brewer Family Farms, LLC, located in Dallas Center, has been raising cattle and hogs for five generations. Siblings Joe Brewer and Emily Wynn, their respective spouses, Brenda Brewer and Jeff Wynn, as well as their parents, Dan and Linda Brewer, are all involved in the family business. The farm currently produces locally grown, family-raised beef products, which it sells to two local retail shops, two restaurants, the Waukee Community School District and directly to consumers.

Brewer Family Farm’s Choose Iowa grant project will produce more value-added meat options for schools through the Farm to School Program. The Brewers will renovate a shed into a storage and distribution facility. This will allow the farm to add value to its beef and pork by producing more and different products for Waukee’s Farm to School Program. Hopefully, they will also collaborate with more school districts and other retailers.

The Brewers expect to increase sales and revenue of ground beef and pork as well as their wholesale revenue. They plan to expand their market by increasing partnerships with additional school districts in the Des Moines. Brewer Family Farms strives to provide wholesome, family-raised meat products for their consumers and this project will allow the Brewers to continue this mission for generations to come.
