Mossycup Farms, LLC, is owned and operated by Laura Tidrick with help from her husband Jess and their two daughters. Mossycup Farms raises pigs, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, ducks and geese, all of which are free range or pasture-raised. In addition, it produces and sells a variety of products including handmade lard soaps, lotion bars, seasoning blends, eggs, meat, bones broths and stocks.
Mossycup Farms’ Choose Iowa grant project will increase production and expand product offerings. These goals will be achieved by upgrading its on-farm commercial kitchen processing capacity from small batch to larger scale products and increasing farm store capacity to offer additional value-added products. The farm will purchase a large, jacketed steam kettle, herb dispensers, display freezer, bowls, scales, trays and other supplies. This will allow the farm to continue to add value to its products as well as the products of partnering producers, and expand its market.
The farm expects to increase sales by 50 percent in the first year, and then double first year sales in the second year. Mossycup Farms also expects to increase customers as well as partnerships with local farms. This project will support the farm’s efforts to produce high quality and healthy products for its consumers and to promote Iowa agriculture through its business.
