Twisted River Farm: 2023-2024 Value-Added Grant Recipient

TWISTED RIVER FARM

Twisted River Farm in Mitchell began in 2014 as a backyard hobby garden. What started as a small, 250 square-foot garden has grown to a three-acre market farm growing salad greens, micro-greens, vegetables, herbs and flowers. The produce is sold through local grocery stores, farmers markets, a CSA, a home delivery service and to restaurants and local school districts.

Twisted River Farm’s Choose Iowa grant project will establish an on-farm store, enhance vegetable processing and increase cold storage capacity. The farm will create an addition to a building, which will house the store, walk-in cooler, small office and packaging area. This project will expand the farm’ market stream through the on-farm store, which will allow it to meet recent increased demand for its products.

The farm expects to substantially increase production, distribution and sales. This project will support Twisted River Farm’s efforts to serve its community and supply high quality, healthy produce for its customers.
